Organic Gardening Has Never Been This Easy!

Many people believe that fruits and vegetables that are grown organically are far superior to regular produce. So save yourself some money and grow produce from your own garden! Read below to learn how to grow your very own organic garden.

Shoveling soil that is mostly clay can be difficult because of the hardness of the soil, and because it sticks to the shovel. To make working in clay easier, rub the shovel with floor or car wax and then buff it with a cloth. The clay easily slides off the surface while keeping the end from getting rusty.

Your tool handles can double as measuring sticks. Larger handled tools like rakes, hoes, and shovels make great measuring sticks. Measure the handles with a tape measure laid out in the floor. Next, use a Sharpie to accurately label the distance between each one. The next time you find yourself in your garden, you will have one large ruler right at your fingertips.

When planting perennials, seek out those that are resistant to slugs. A plant can be completely demolished overnight by slugs and snails. These pests prefer plants with thin smooth leaves. Plant some helleborus or euphorbias along with your other perennials. Some perennials, however, leave a bad taste in slugs’ mouths or are difficult to chew through because their leaves aren’t tender. Wonderful varieties of such perennials include euphorbia, campanula, helleborus, achillea, and heuchera.

Plant annuals and biennials to make your flower beds brighter. These fast growth plants make flower beds vibrant, and they let you alter the appearance seasonally and annually. They are very helpful when trying to fill in gaps between shrubs and perennials in an area that is sunny. There are many different varieties to choose from such as daisies, marigolds, impatiens, and lantana.

Plants need C02 for maximum growth. Often, plants achieve better growth when they are surrounded by high levels of CO2. A greenhouse has the best levels available. It’s very important to keep the CO2 levels high so your plants have the best possible growing conditions.

You can alleviate this problem by planting grasses that your cat will naturally gravitate towards. You could also place something that will cause your cat to go away from your plants, such as citrus peels or mothballs.

A set of knee pads are a life saver if you’re an avid gardener and a lot of your plants sit close to the ground. Gardening can really put a lot of pressure on your knees that will leave you cramped and uncomfortable. You can be more comfortable in the garden with a good pair of gardening knee pads.

If you want to effectively weed out young plants, you can try “boiling” away the weeds. Any vessel of boiling water that you can carry safely can be used as an organic herbicide. Pour the boiling water directly onto the weeds, just make sure you do not damage the nearby plants. The water will kill the weeds by destroying the roots and if poured directly on the weeds, will prevent them from growing back.
